In 1989, I was working at Sears and I had just been told that I will be training the new stockroom manager, which was supposed to be my job. A few days later, an ex coworker came back into Sears to purchase some tools. He told me that he had just started his own hardwood floor company and needed more help. I have always liked working with wood, so I thought I’d give it a try. I promptly put in my notice and two weeks later I was learning my new career. I worked for him about 5 years and then went on to work for another of the larger companies in town for about another 5 years. I learned a lot from those two companies and when I had the opportunity,  I also learned a few things from Frank Youngblood, one of the old timers in the hardwood floor industry  who has since passed away. In the year 2000, I started my own company called TFG construction. TFG Construction was a light Remodeling Company that did painting, carpentry and hardwood floors, but mainly, hardwood floors. It seemed that no matter what I was doing, people always wanted to call me “The Floor Guy”.  The name fit well and I and I began to concentrate all my effort on flooring, mostly, hardwood floors. My brother and I worked together for a few years and I learned a little about how to install tile also. My kids also learned how to do hardwood floors and helped out from time to time.
